they are colourful, they are playful, and they poke fun at human weaknesses – one could also call his sculptures “societal criticism turned comic”. paul mühlbauer is a satirist who needs no words. art historian eva maltrovsky writes about him: "the dazzling spectrum of critical observation of the bizarre, the satirical, and the comical in paul mühlbauer's work is supplemented by the aspect of irony. irony means stepping back and observing events from a certain distance. the amusement that comes with it is certainly also cathartic."
the artist prefers to work with bronze, a material that lends stability to the lean, tall figures. each of his sculptures is a unique piece, painted by hand. occasionally, paul mühlbauer also integrates into the production process concepts from art history, for example the idea of the "ready made".
the three art books document as yet unpublished and/or revised works from recent years, with a focus on his comic-like sculptures and works in public spaces.
